Newborn Session information

When should we book our newborn session?

The sooner the better. Most parents book their session towards the end of their second trimester. Since you don’t know exactly when your little one will arrive, we pencil you in on your due date. Once the baby makes an entrance, we ask that you let us know; it is at that point that we get you on the calendar with an exact time and date. We do take on a limited number of newborn sessions per month to ensure availability. If your baby is already here, we will make our best effort to fit you in.

How old should our baby be?

The ideal window for newborn sessions is roughly the first 6 - 18 days of life. Of course, all babies are different, and it is possible to get newborn images after that window. In general, though, after this time, they tend to wake easier, are not as squishy, and often develop baby acne - all of which could hinder achieving that newborn look. They also are changing so quickly, and you really want to capture that fresh newborn look that fades so quickly.

What is a session like?

Sessions take place at the KSP home studio located in the quiet town of Killingworth, CT - Nestled between Madison and Old Saybrook. Only one session is booked per day, to allow ample time for your session with no interruptions. The session is led by your baby; we ensure their needs are taken care of, and never force a pose. Since your little one will likely be in their birthday suit, we keep the studio heated to roughly 80 degrees, and have everything needed to feed and change your baby.

What do we need to do for the session?

We are a full-service studio, so all you need to do is provide the baby and we will take care of the rest! We do recommend a change of clothes in case yours get soiled during family photos. You are also relieved from diaper duty during the session - we will take care of any changing or messes. We have couches and chairs, snacks, and coffee, so we encourage you to sit back and relax, or even take a nap!

How long does a session last?

Since we do allow for any breaks baby needs (feeding, changes, or snuggles), the full sessions can run anywhere from 2 - 4 hours. Swaddled sessions can be as quick as 45 minutes. We do hope that you use this time for yourself to take a breather and relax.

What happens after the session?

A few days following your session, you’ll see a sneak peek of one of my favorite images from the session. Within two weeks, you will receive a slideshow of all your images to view in the comfort of your home. Once you have had a chance to view all the images, you will choose a collection that includes both digital files and print credit. You will then have 30 days to select the images you love for your digital files, and detailed instructions on how to purchase your art right from your gallery.
