Frequently Asked Questions About Newborn Photography
As an experienced Connecticut newborn photographer, I often get asked a lot of questions about newborn photography. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions and my answers:
1. When should I book the session?
Honestly, anytime after the first trimester. I only take a limited number of newborn sessions every month, and while we don’t need to schedule the exact date and time when you book, this does ensure a spot on my calendar for your session.
1. When is the best time to schedule a newborn photo session?
The best time to schedule a newborn photo session is within the first 6 -21 days of your baby's life. This is when newborns are still very sleepy and flexible, which makes it easier to pose them for photos. Once you are home from the hospital with your little one, we will look at the calendar together and pick the exact date and time for your session.
2. What should I bring to my newborn photo session?
When you book your session, you will receive a client prep guide with this info and more, but you really only need to bring the basics. I even have diapers and wipes at the studio if you forget yours.
A pacifier (if using)
A bottle of milk or formula
A change of clothes for yourself - I keep it toasty in the studio, so you might want to bring a light outfit to keep cool.
3. What should I wear to my newborn photo session?
We’ll go over all this in detail before your session, but comfortable and simple is best. We want the focus to be on the connection with your little one, and not the clothing.
4. How long will my newborn photo session last?
A newborn photo session can last anywhere from 2 - 4 hours. This includes time for feeding, changing, and snuggle breaks. I only book one session per day, so I don’t put a time limit on the session.
5. How much does a newborn photo session cost?
The session fee for my time is $250 in-studio/$350 in-home. Packages begin at $900.
6. Can we do family photos during the session?
Absolutely! I strongly encourage both sibling and family images. I know you won’t be feeling your best, but they are the first images I capture at the session so we can get them out of the way and you can relax. Sometimes parents even fall asleep on my couch while I am photographing their little one.
7. Can I request specific poses for my newborn?
Before the session, you’ll receive a questionnaire that helps me cater your session to exactly what you are hopign to capture. You can request specific poses for your newborn, but I will always prioritize your baby's safety and comfort. Some babies are more ‘bendy’ then others and simply want to be curled up like they were still in mama’s belly, while others want to stretch out. If a pose is not safe or comfortable for your baby, I will not do it.
